Waldo is Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Americas.  Fortis Americas is the American merchant banking arm of the Fortis Group headquartered in Brussels and Amsterdam.  Prior to joining Fortis in January 2005, Waldo was General Manager at Royal Bank of Canada’s New York branch.  He also was Managing Director of RBC Capital Markets and Head of RBC’s Communications and Technology Group, with global responsibility for the firm’s relationships in media, telecommunications and technology.  Prior to Royal Bank of Canada, Waldo spent 24 years with JP Morgan Chase in various assignments in Europe, Asia and the Americas. 

 Along with his role as CEO of Fortis Americas, Waldo also serves as Chairman of the Board of the Institute of International Bankers. Founded in 1966, the Institute is the only national association devoted exclusively to representing and advancing the interests of the international banking community in the United States. Its membership is comprised of internationally headquartered banking/financial institutions from over 30 countries around the world.

 Waldo received his B.A. from the University of Richmond in 1971 and his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1973.

 Waldo began his service on the Board of Trustees in 2001 and will complete his second four-year term in 2009.  He and his wife, Marci, have two children; one of whom is a Richmond graduate. They reside in Greenwich, Connecticut.
