Peter J. BernardAs CEO of Bon Secours the State’s Fourth Largest Health System with Virginia, Peter Bernard leads 11,000 employees and total net annual operating revenues of $1.4 billion. He is responsible for seven hospitals and a network of physician practices, outpatient and diagnostic facilities, home care services long-term care, and hospice care providers. Peter brings more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience to BSRHS, having held a number of hospital leadership roles including being President and CEO of CARITAS Health Services in Louisville, Kentucky.
Under Peter’s leadership, Bon Secours has consistently been recognized for its commitment to patients, employees and the community it serves. Bon Secours Richmond was named “Corporate Philanthropist of the Year” by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2005 and has received recognition from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and other community groups for its outreach and care for the underserved. Bon Secours’ clinical programs have also received recognition, including designations as centers of excellence for bariatrics, stroke care, and “Favorite Place to Have a Baby.”
Peter is a member of the board of directors for a number of community-based entities including the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross which he will chair in 2008-2009, St. Joseph’s Villa, and Venture Richmond. He served as the Chair of the 2007 United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg campaign and is a member of the Management Roundtable and the Forum Club.
Peter received a bachelor’s of science degree from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan and a master’s degree in healthcare and hospital administration from the University of Minnesota.
Peter and his wife, Colette, have four boys.
