Lew is President of Property Investment Advisors, Inc., founded in 1993 to provide real estate investment management services to endowment funds, foundations and high net worth individuals. He has been involved in real estate lending, development and investments since 1971.

Lew graduated from Old Dominion University in 1968 with a degree in economics. Lew served in the U. S. Army, rising to the rank of Captain. Following a tour in Vietnam, he returned to Virginia and began a career in banking, specializing in problem loan administration. He received an MBA from the Robins School of Business in 1978.

Upon completion of his graduate studies, he embarked on a career in commercial real estate development that lasted into the mid-1990s. He served as a development consultant to the Boards of the Darden School, as well as the VCU School of Engineering. Lew served on the Board of Westminster Canterbury and acted as development advisor for the recent expansion of that facility and chaired the Property Committee.

Lew is currently a University of Richmond Trustee.

He has been a member of numerous real estate professional organizations for many years.
