Margaret E. ‘Lyn’ McDermid, Senior Vice President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, joined Virginia Power in 1982.  Prior to that, she was employed by Stone and Webster Engineering Corp.

A native of Boston, McDermid was the first woman to enter the Apprentice Program at the Newport News Shipyard where she completed the Patternmaker’s program.

After holding various positions in Virginia Power’s Engineering and Construction Department, McDermid was named Director of Administrative Services in 1986. She was promoted to Senior Vice President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer on October 1, 1998.

McDermid received her bachelor’s degree in business from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA. She went on to earn a Master’s of Business Administration from the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond.

McDermid was named to Computerworld’s list of “Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2004.”  McDermid has served on several State advisory boards including the Chief Information Officer Advisory Board, the Virginia Research and Technology Advisory Council, and the Critical Infrastructure Protection Work Group. She is a member of the Board of Trustees at Mary Baldwin College, Foundation Board at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Board of Directors for the Greater Richmond Technology Council, the Richmond Federal Reserve, CIO Forum, The Richmond Forum and Lay Member, Third District Committee, and Virginia State Bar.
