Walter (Joe) O'Brien III is Managing Director at BB&T Capital Markets where he manages the institutional equity trading desk. He has been with BB&T for 10 years since the formation of their capital markets division and has helped to grow the trading desk from its core operations in Richmond to offices in New York, San Francisco, and Boston. This department has grown in revenues from its formation to a $30 million-plus operation with employees spread throughout these cities catering to the largest institutional investors.

Joe originally worked at Citigroup in New York for seven years before joining BB&T Capital Markets. While at Citigroup he developed and managed a short term derivative based fixed income trading desk.

Joe graduated from the University of Richmond in 1989 with a degree in Economics. His wife Debra is a teacher at the University of Richmond's School of Continuing Studies. They have 2 children who are just beginning their school years.
