Information on Admissions

Prospective students may apply as either part-time or full-time students. A joint JD/MBA program is also available. Because The Richmond MBA is designed to meet the needs of working professionals, applicants are expected to have at least two years of relevant work experience after completion of their bachelors degree before applying. Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and meet current standards for both undergraduate grade point average (GPA) and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score. Equal opportunity for admission is assured to all applicants subject to qualifications, space, and class-size limitations.

All students begin the MBA program by attending the Opening Residency in August and then start classes in the fall semester. The deadline for applications is May 1. Admissions decisions are made in early May. In some cases, special early acceptance may be offered to outstanding applicants.

Full-time Students

Students who wish to accelerate their MBA program may do so by completing the curriculum on a full-time basis. Full-time students take 9 or 12 credit hours per semester, and typically complete their degree in 24-27 months. A limited number of graduate assistantships are available for full-time students. The assistantships commit the student to providing research assistance to faculty for 15 hours per week. Graduate assistants may not have other employment during the term of the assistantship. The assistantship provides tuition remission for fall and spring semesters.

JD/MBA Program

Students in the JD/MBA program complete one year of law school classes before beginning their MBA program. Applicants for the JD/MBA program are required to meet the admission standards of both the MBA program of the Robins School of Business and the University of Richmond School of Law. The two-year work experience request is waived for JD/MBA students.

Applications must be made separately to the Robins School and the School of Law. A bulletin and application form for the School of Law may be obtained from:

Director of Admissions
University of Richmond School of Law
University of Richmond, VA 23173

International students should contact the MBA director at least six months prior to the application deadline to determine what additional documents must be submitted.

Students whose native language is not English, or whose collegiate-level instruction was not in English, must earn a score of at least 600 on the paper based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), 250 on the computer based test or 100 on the internet based test.
