August 24, 2009
University of Richmond's Robins School of Business offers a full-day entrepreneurship workshop for local business owners, investors, students and other aspiring entrepreneurs Sept. 9 at Jepson Alumni Center on the university's campus.
The morning session, "Launching, Growing and Attracting New Financing to Your Venture," will focus on the intersection of finance and entrepreneurship and runs from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Karen Booth Adams, founder of PoshTots and Fahrenheit Technology, will address launching a venture. Jim Brady, founder of Payerpath and a Richmond alumnus, will follow with a presentation on the growing aspect, and private equity veteran Fred Russell of Virginia Capital Partners will talk about financing.
Charlottesville Venture Group will present its traveling "Live Fire!" program from 1:30-4:30 p.m., when five area companies make 15-minute presentations of their business plans and funding needs to a three-person panel of angel investment group leaders before a live audience. The panel will question the presenters, providing an informative and entertaining look into the world of early stage companies and investing.
Real companies seeking real money who want to make a "Live Fire!" presentation at the workshop can submit their plans for consideration by Aug. 29. There is no charge to submit a plan.
Registration and a networking breakfast take place from 7:30-8:15 a.m. A networking lunch at 12:15 p.m. and a networking cocktail reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. are also included. Cost per person is $35 for the full-day program, $20 for either the morning or afternoon session. Space is limited.
