A. Marshall Acuff, Jr.
Mr. Acuff is president of AMA Investment Counsel, LLC. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts, as well as a fellow of the Association for Investment Management & Research and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, of which he is a past director. Mr. Acuff is a thirteen-time member of Institutional Investor magazine's All-American Team. He has participated in advanced investment seminars at Harvard and Princeton, has been frequently quoted by the media and has appeared on CNN, Bloomberg, PBS, CBS, NBC, ABC, NKK, BBC, and CNBC as guest host of Squawkbox. His publications include columns for the Nikkei (Japan Economic Journal), the Handelsblatt newspaper (Germany's business and financial daily), and articles in Barron's and Forbes.
After graduating from the College of William and Mary (1962), and the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business Administration (1966), Mr. Acuff joined Salomon Smith Barney Inc. In 1970 he became the first individual on Wall Street to be designated as a portfolio strategist. After serving as a senior vice president and managing director, Mr. Acuff retired from Salomon Smith Barney in 2001 to start AMA Investment Counsel, LLC.
Mr. Acuff is Past Chair of the Association of Governing Boards of Colleges and Universities (AGB) and Rector of the Board of Visitors of the College of William and Mary. He is currently a member of the board of directors and Chair of the Finance Committee of Sweet Briar College, and a member of the boards of Owens & Minor Inc., Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Inc. (treasurer), the Episcopal Church Foundation (treasurer), the Endowment Association of the College of William and Mary (vice chair of the board and chair, investments committee), the Board of Sponsors of the William and Mary Business School, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science Foundation (treasurer), the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Community Foundation of Richmond, the Virginia Theological Seminary and the Governor's Advisory Commission on Higher Education Appointments. He is an adjunct professor of business administration at the College of William and Mary.
