Statement of Purpose:
The Economics Society serves as a forum for economics majors, minors, and concentrates. The intent of this society is to promote faculty/student social interaction, guidance to majors, minors, and concentrates, and academic enhancement outside of the classroom through speakers and forums.
Past Events:
Christopher Moore (B.S. in Economics Class of 1986) Vice-President of Mailing Services Inc. "My experiences in the work force and the use of my economics degree."
Ray Stone, founder of Economic and Financial Information Services. "Prospects for Short-Run and Long-Run Interest Rates in the 1990's."
Faculty vs. Student Softball Game and BBQ.
Career Workshop. Provided economics majors an opportunity to find out what they could do with their degree by speaking with representatives in banking, educations, and research institutions.
Forum on graduate education options and opportunities for economics majors with representatives from economics, business and law.
Alumni panel discussion. Various local UR alumni come from a panel discussion about what they have done since graduation and how their economics major has helped them in their work.
Federal Reserve Tour. Students take a trip to the Federal Reserve Building in Richmond for a tour and explanation of how the Fed influences the economy. Highlights include the vault and print shop.
Various socials with other societies.
