Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition
Each fall semester Robins School accounting professors choose four undergraduate accounting students to compete in the regional Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition. Students must have completed or be currently enrolled in the ACCT 312 – Federal Taxation to be eligible.
Students from colleges and universities across the U.S. gather to test their knowledge, problem-solving skills, and ability to work together as a team in the Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition. Sponsored by the Deloitte Foundation, a non-profit arm of professional services firm Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, the nationwide interscholastic competition for undergraduate and graduate tax students is held every October at several regional sites.
Teams work against the clock to complete a complex, hypothetical case study that draws on students' knowledge of tax topics. The top 12 teams - six undergraduate and six graduate - will advance to the National Competition in November. There, they will compete for individual scholarships and institutional awards.
The Tax Case Study Competition features two divisions, graduate and undergraduate, and two levels of competition, regional and national. At each level, teams of up to four students are given five hours to complete a case study that requires participants to analyze information and identify data relevant for tax purposes, identify issues and alternative tax treatments, and develop a recommended solution that appropriately cites the Internal Revenue Code and Treasury Regulations. At the end of the competition, each team prepares a written solution to their case and submits it to a panel of judges from Deloitte Tax LLP for evaluation.
