Finance Society

The Finance Society is open to all students without regard to major or class standing.  The objective is to allow for an expanded set of experiences in personal finance, financial market analysis, personal investments, and professional development.  The society sponsors workshops with the Career Development Center, invited speakers, investment games and competitions, investment tutorials, and a junior analyst relationship with our department’s Student Managed Investment Fund program.

Students learn the basics of collecting, reading, and interpreting financial information with an emphasis on security valuation.  A group of juniors in the Finance Society are invited to take a trip to New York City in January to visit with Wall Street Investment firms and lay the groundwork for summer internships.

Finally, two of the strongest junior analysts are selected to attend the annual RISE Investment Conference accompanied by a faculty member as part of our grooming process for senior student managers in Student Managed Investment Fund.  The founding faculty member/mentor for the society is Professor Jerry L. Stevens.

Selection for RISE Investment Conference takes place early in the spring semester with the conference at the end of March.
