Requirements for Independent Study

Any student interested in an academic internship must receive written approval in advance. A Learning Contract must be on file with the department chair prior to the student embarking on an independent study for economics credit.
Each student must request and receive a CRN from the Economics Department Chair to register for an independent study. A student should register for ECON 269 or 369 (Independent Study).
The number of credit hours a student may apply toward bachelor's degree requirements will be no more than three (3) hours.
Independent studies are graded on a scale of A through F.
In order to administratively process an academic independent study, a deadline for advance approval is hereby established. Approval must be obtained no later than the end of the third week of the academic semester.
Standards for academic independent study credit, specified in Item No. 2 of the learning contract, will be decided by the University of Richmond faculty member.
The learning contract below will provide the documentation necessary to initiate the credit-granting and final approval process. Each contract for an academic independent study must include a deadline or due date.
